With less than 30 million IPv4 addresses left in the AFRINIC inventory, it’s not surprising that policy discussions in the region have been centred around IPv4 conservation and exhaustion. During the 23rd AFRINIC Public Policy Meeting held in Pointe Noire in December 2015, the following policy proposals were discussed at length:

We (the global corps of IPv6 evangelists) have done the trainings (over 200 training sessions in about 45 countries in Africa alone and counting). We've done the conferences (several variations of IPv6 World, IPv6 Business Conferences, IPv6 Hours and Days at the Africa Internet Summits, etc).
As we head into 2016, we take a look back over AFRINIC's key achievements, events and milestones throughout 2015.
2015 in Numbers
16.6 million IPv4 addresses allocated.
4,416 /32s and 27 /48s of IPv6 address space allocated.
160 Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs) assigned.
15.2% of the ASNs assigned by AFRINIC announce IPv6.
148 new members welcomed on board.
Five new staff joined the AFRINIC team.
Over 550 people attended the Africa Internet Summit (AIS)/AFRINIC-22 in Tunis, Tunisia and AFRINIC-23 in Pointe Noire, Congo.
580 people trained on IPv6 and/or Internet Number Resource Management in 14 different countries.
3 policies proposed, 2 still under discussion, 1 accepted and 1 withdrawn.
US$ 9,000 given to the 3 winners of the 2015 FIRE Awards: each winner received cash prize US$ 3,000.
12 people from 12 countries awarded Fellowships to attend the Africa Internet Summit (AIS)/AFRINIC-22 and AFRINIC-23.
