AFRINIC has implemented an important upgrade on MyAFRINIC. Following the announcement of browser vendors such as Mozilla, Google, Apple, and Microsoft to move forward with disabling  TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 as default options for secure connections. This will be effected after 10 March 2020. Thereafter, Firefox will only support TLS 1.2 and higher versions. The Internet Engineering Task Force through an Internet Draft https://tools.ietf.org/id/draft-ietf-tls-oldversions-deprecate-02.html has backed the effort. As a result, AFRINIC had to upgrade the TLS infrastructure on my.afrinic.net to TLS 1.2 which allows newer versions of Mozilla Firefox to work seamlessly with our member services portal. A collaborative effort among the Infrastructure, Application, Research and Innovation, and Member Services teams was crucial to action this upgrade. AFRINIC is committed to improving its services to members and continues to closely monitor my.afrinic.net for any potential issues.

Greetings from Addis Ababa where I attended the Ethiopia Internet Development Conference. We have come to make a statement of support to the Internet Development in Ethiopia and in Africa as a whole as well as growing existing strategic partnerships with different stakeholders.

We analysed the readiness of African National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) to be part of “The Things Network” (TTN). We used RIPE Atlas to measure delay and packet loss from NREN networks to TTN.

The Things Network and LoRaWAN

The Things Network (TTN) is a network of IoT gateways that has fostered the growth of IoT in Europe by adopting a community network model. It is an initiative to build a worldwide open source infrastructure to facilitate a public Internet of Things (IoT).
